Drs. Torrey Trust and Robert Maloy received the UMass Amherst College of Education Research Fellowship Grant to design a 3D printing, teaching, and learning community of practice for K-12 teachers. The research project took place during the 2015-2016 school year.
This research study aimed to address the need for the development of learning opportunities and resources for teachers to use 3D printers as tools for transforming student learning. For this project, we researched how new teacher candidates and their cooperating public school teachers went about integrating 3D printing in lesson plans and instructional practices. The study offered a unique opportunity to document the attitudes, knowledge, and practices of current and future teachers at a time when a dynamic new technology is just beginning to be integrated into K-12 schools.
